Budget update

AFGE action alert 10/26/17

Brother and Sisters,

You did it! Today, the House passed the Senate Budget Resolution without reconciliation cuts to your pay, retirement, or health care benefits.

Your calls, emails and letters made the difference in keeping cuts to federal employees out of the final budget.

Thank you to all the local leaders and members who mobilized against these harmful proposals over the past five months, joined multiple conference calls, participated in telephone town halls, and took time to meet with Members of Congress.

You made 44,334 calls to Congressional offices to fight for your pay, retirement, and health care benefits.

Although this budget does not include cuts to our compensation and benefits, AFGE does not support this budget. The budget passed today is a vehicle for tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires, which will ultimately increase the deficit, and again result in cuts to federal budgets, and our jobs and benefits. We had a victory today, but OUR fight is not over.

YOUR voice makes a difference. We have many battles ahead of us and AFGE must be engaged and ready to fight for your rights and the rights of all working people.

Thank you,
AFGE

House Approves Cuts to YOUR Pay and Retirement. Can We Stop Them?

On Thursday, the House of Representatives voted to approve a budget that mandates cuts to your pay and retirement. Every AFGE member and every federal employee will be impacted by these cuts if we do not act now.

We have one last chance to stop the House’s budget from becoming law – we must call every member of Congress and tell them to vote no on any budget that cuts federal employee wages and retirement benefits.

Calling your member of Congress is easy. Dial 1 (844)669-5146 and listen to the script, then enter your zip code.
When someone answers the phone, simply tell the staffer that you are a voter in the District, you are a federal employee and that you do not deserve cuts to your pay or your hard-earned retirement.

Then call the number back. You should make three calls: one to each DC office of your two Senators, and one to the DC office of your House Representative.

Then call this number: 1 (888)775-3148 to call all three District offices – one call to each of your Senator’s district offices and one to your House Representative’s district office.

Did you call your lawmaker yet?

Have you called your lawmaker to stop H.R. 1364 and H.R. 1461 yet?

Here’s the phone number to call:
855-974-4792

Here’s a script to use: “Hello, my name is _____, and I’m a member of the American Federation of Government Employees from [Your City, State]. Please tell the Representative to vote NO on H.R. 1364, and vote NO on H.R. 1461. These bills do nothing to improve government. They simply attack my rights at work and my ability to provide quality service for the people I’m proud to serve. Thank you.”

For more information on these two terrible bills, click here.

In Solidarity,
AFGE

P.S. Legislation like this moves fast – are you signed up for our text messages so you can be ready? Text “AFGE” to 225568 from your personal phone (never your government phone) and answer the three questions to subscribe!

Stop These Union-Busting Bills

Two bills that impact federal workers’ workplace rights’ are under consideration on Capitol Hill. If passed, they will effectively eliminate official time for all federal employees and cut retirement benefits for employee representatives. These bills will be voted on soon.
